Just in a span of few months, Reliance Jio has emerged as the largest broadband service provider of India as per the report from TRAI ( Telecom Regulatory Authority of India). In a report, TRAI has revealed that Jio has acquired a lion market share of 39% with a total of 102 million connections ( both including wireless and wired), thus becoming the leader of broadband service in India.
Reliance Jio under the ownership of Sri Mukesh Ambani started its commercial services in September 2016 with a purely fourth generation (4G) network. With a staggering aggressive marketing strategy, it was able to acquire millions of customers within few months.
Meanwhile, the report states that Jio's primary competitor Airtel stands in second position with a total market share of 17.87% which equates to 46.69 million broadband connections. UK-based Vodafone group’s Indian arm had a share of 12.27% with 32.06 million broadband customers, and Aditya Birla group’s Idea Cellular had 24.31 million users with 9.3% share.
State-run Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), according to telecom watchdog had 20.81 million customers contributing 7.69%.
Miscellaneous wired and mobile service providers together accounted for a 13.24% share with 34.6 million connections.
