JioPhone Production to continue - Few improvements might be added

JIO PHONE PRODUCTION

Few days back, there was a report in Factor Daily claiming that Jio is looking into stopping the production of its JioPhone and is evaluating options to produce a android based phone. The report also quoted the sources who attributed the production halt to KaiOS (forked version of Firefox OS), which does not support a lot of apps.

However, a Reliance Jio spokesperson, in a statement disproved the report and said that next pre-booking date will be announced soon. “JioPhone, ‘India ka smartphone’ is committed to fulfilling the country’s digital vision. Jio welcomes the initial 6 million Indians who are moving to digital life with the JioPhone and will soon announce the next JioPhone booking date.

Reliance JioPhone runs KaiOS, and it comes with Jio’s suite of apps like MyJio, JioMusic, JioTV, JioCinema, etc. Of course, more apps can be downloaded from JioStore. Notably, JioPhone doesn’t ship with popular social media and messaging apps like Facebook and WhatsApp. However, we’ve learnt that the company plans to roll out support for Facebook and WhatsApp soon, though timeline is unclear. Reliance Jio is looking to develop and app ecosystem for JioPhone, keeping in mind tier 2 and tier 3 users. We could see addition of utility apps like bus booking apps as well as entertainment apps. Details are unclear at this moment.

Reliance Jio is currently finishing up the first batch of deliveries of JioPhone. Reliance JioPhone pre-bookings started August 24, and deliveries began September 15. The company says it has received close to six million booking so far, and about 10 million expressions of interests from across the country. At the launch, Reliance Jio had said that it is targeting to have five million JioPhones available every week.

Diwali Offer - 100% Cash back with Rs 399 Recharge

100% Cashback with Rs 399 Recharge - Limited Time Offer

Reliance Jio has introduced a limited period Diwali offer to all its prime customers in which it has offered a 100% cash back on recharging with its Rs 399 plan. The offer is valid from 12th to 18th of October, 2017. In its official website, Jio has named it as one of the Diwali gifts to all its happy customers.

This offer is available to all new and existing customers. Even if any other recharge pack is running, the customers still can avail this offer. The recharge with offer will become effective after the current pack expires.

Details of the offer:

When a prime user recharges with a Rs 399 pack between 12th and 18th of October 2017, Jio is offering the user with 8 vouchers of Rs 50 each. It means an amount of Rs 400 is being offered as cash back ( Rs 50 X 8 Vouchers = Rs 400 Cash back). All these vouchers will be available for use in the Myvoucher section of Myjio app.

The user can avail the vouchers in MyJio application with his account, and can only use the vouchers after 15th November 2017.  Jio has confirmed that one voucher can be redeemed at a time, but not all at once. One voucher can be redeemed against the recharge of Rs 399 or above plan and against Rs 91 & above data add ons after 15-11-2017.  Jio has not specified any expiry date for redeeming the vouchers yet, hence it is safe to assume that the users can redeem vouchers for a long time.

Interestingly, Jio has left an indication that it might announce new plans effective from October 19th of 2017. The company has written a note " New plans effective from October 19".

Apart from this, the user will enjoy the usual benefits of Dhan Dhana Dhan in which he/she will get free voice calling and unlimited data for 84 days. The speed will be reduced to 128 kbps after the user has consumed 1GB quota per day.

Jio Data Speed almost Doubles

According to the recent report from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Reliance Jio has posted the average speed of 18.43 Mbps, whereas other competitors like Vodafone, Idea Cellular and Airtel have posted 8.999 Mbps, 8.746 Mbps, and 8.550 Mbps. Reliance Jio has managed to retain its top spot for 8th consecutive time. It seems for now that there is no one to topple Jio, not at least in near future.

Meanwhile, India's third largest telecom operator Idea Cellular has achieved the highest upload speed. Idea reported a high average download speed of 8.74 Mbps for the same period. As per TRAI's My Speed App, Idea has been consistently achieving high upload speeds since May 2017.The report is analyzed more than 7 billion measurements collected from 708,504 mobile devices from subscribers across India.

OpenSignal also said that out that Jio's average 4G download speed result climbed from 3.9 Mbps to 5.8 Mbps - an astonishing 49 percent increase.  As the free-data period concluded, something clearly happened to ease the congestion on Jio's network

In the six months between reports, Jio’s average 4G download speed result climbed from 3.9 Mbps to 5.8 Mbps, the firm said. “A likely explanation is that Jio customers began restricting their data usage once they found themselves paying for the gigabytes they consumed, though network upgrades or customer losses could also explain the shift in speeds,” it said in a report released on Thursday.

iPhone buyback offer from Jio

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd on Friday offered a 70-per cent buyback deal for those who will use iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus on its network for a year with a minimum recharge of Rs 799 every month.  Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Jio has teamed up with Cupertino, US-based Apple to launch the latest iPhone 8 and iPhone X along with Jio connection in order to garner more users for its telecom network.
Iphone buyback offer with Reliance Jio
Iphone buyback offer with Reliance Jio
The two companies recently announced their partnership in which Jio has promised to buy back the new models of iPhones at an attractive price. As part of the offer, Reliance will buy back the high-end phones after 12 months. In return, customers will get 70 per cent of the price of their iPhone. “We promise a 70 per cent buyback for iPhone 8, 8+ and 10, after one year,” Akash Ambani, Director of Reliance Jio and son of Mukesh Ambani, said at the launch of the scheme.

This scheme is expected to help Apple to increase its sale in India, at the same time more of the high end customers will be attracted towards Jio network. This strategy is a win-win situation for both companies. This is the first time Reliance is offering such a hefty buyback price in a bid to win over high-spending Apple fans whose hunger for data, the company hopes, will boost revenues. Apple is keen to sell more iPhones in India, one of the world's biggest smartphone markets, but the expensive cost of its handsets has kept higher-end iPhones, in particular, out of the reach of hundreds of millions of Indians. For Apple, growing in India is crucial as growth slows at home and in China. The deal will place Apple's iPhones in Reliance and Jio retail stores in 900 cities across the country, giving the company a chance to boost its meagre 3 per cent market share and close the gap with market leader Samsung Electronics. Apple CEO Tim Cook said the newly launched iPhone 8 and 8 plus will be supporting Hindi dictation. “We got a new keyboard for India and we now support 11 local languages. The iPhone now takes dictation in Hindi,” he said in a video message.
The message from Cook was played at an event at Reliance Jio’s corporate headquarters here, where the Mukesh Ambani-led company announced a slew of offers for the latest series of iPhones.

Unlimited Data added to Rs 149 Jio Prepaid Plan

Without any notifications or announcements, Reliance Jio has added unlimited data feature to one of its prepaid packs. Previously, three of the prepaid plans of Reliance Jio did not have unlimited data feature namely Rs 19, Rs49 and Rs 149. But in a quite move, Jio has updated its 149 prepaid plan to include unlimited data at a speed of 64kbps (kilobytes per second) after exhausting the 2GB bundle with 28 days validity. This is the only plan which has a reduced data speed of 64 kbps, rest all prepaid plans come with a unlimited speed of 128kbps ( except Rs 19 and Rs 49).
Jio updated Rs 149 prepaid plan
The Rs. 149 plan costs a little less than half of the popular Rs. 309 plan that offers 56 days of validity and 1GB data per day FUP, and is a lot more lucrative. Even the Rs. 96 plan comes with 7GB of 4G data, even though the validity is just 7 days. The Rs. 149 plan is not available for postpaid consumers of Jio. Calls are free, of course, and the pack comes with Jio apps subscription and free SMS.

Terms and Conditions of JioPhone - All you want to know

JioPhone Terms and Conditions

Reliance Jio Company has announced a detailed list of terms and conditions related to the newly announced JioPhone. The company has already completed its first wave of pre-bookings with an initial deposit of 500 INR for each JioPhone. The company claims the JioPhone a free phone, but the minute details related to accepting, working, returning and conflict resolution have been made public recently. In this exciting development, Jio has now introduced an early exit option for JioPhone users who wish to return the device before the stipulated period of three years. Besides, this will now enable customers to get a part of their deposit refunded on a graded basis.

As per the details listed, any customer who returns the JioPhone within the one year will not get any refund. Those who return the device between 12-24 months of usage will get a refund of Rs. 500 while those who return the device between 24-36 months of usage will be eligible for a refund of Rs. 1,000. And finally, post 36 months of stipulated usage JioPhone users can return the device and get the complete refund of Rs. 1,500.

Notably, Jio has said that relevant government tax will be applicable on the early exit charges. Meanwhile, the company has also issued minimum usage policy in order to prevent misuse or hoarding of the JioPhone and to encourage use of its world-class 4G services. Well, Jio has basically stipulated a minimum recharge of Rs. 1,500 a year further allowing JioPhone owners to use any combination of plans, in order to be eligible for the refund.

"This brings greater flexibility to users as they may opt to recharge as per convenience and need as long as they recharge for Rs 1500 during the entire year. If a customer chooses to be on the JioPhone specific Rs 153 plan then he or she will have to do only 10 recharges (instead of the regular 13 prepaid cycles in a year) during the year to be eligible for the refund," the company said in an email statement.
