Akash Ambani shared the commitment of Reliance Jio in
improving the digital literacy of Indians during the inauguration of India
Digital Open Summit 2018. “Jio is committed to improve the lives of every
Indian in a positive way. At Jio we are committed to contribute and use open
source technologies to better our consumer experience. Our chairman believes
that India is on the path to be a technology innovation leader and a technology
superpower, and open source community will be a driving force behind this.”
told Akash Ambani, Director of Reliance Jio Infocomm.
He was speaking at the first India Digital Open Summit inaugurated
at Mumbai on January 19, 2018. This summit is co-partnered by Linux Foundation
Networking Projects and supported by Cisco Systems. The main agenda of the
event was to promote open source networking platforms and infrastructure in the
Indian context to change how we experience telecom and networking in the coming
days.
Akash also said how Jio is considering Open Source as an
important element for future Jio projects. “The year 2017 was the tipping point
for AR and VR globally. In India, AR and
VR are in the initial stages of adoption but at Jio, we believe it will grow at
a 50 percent compounded rate for the next five years,” said Akash Ambani.
He utilized this opportunity to hint at possible
exploration to enter the mostly untapped block chain sector. Akash Ambani said “ 2017 was the year of block
chain and digital currency, highlighted by all the buzz surrounding bitcoin. Block
chain provides a distributed ledger system for enabling secure transactions.
One of the fundamental features was bitcoin but it can be used in other fields
such as banking, education, real estate, etc."
Several eminent speakers from the relevant industry
delivered keynotes in front of gathering. The audience comprised of representatives
and stakeholders from start-ups to already well established companies. Keynotes
of the speeches were about how open source has already been leveraged by the
enterprise and various companies, resulting in today’s end user experiencing
almost end to end open source implementations.
