JIOPHONE NEXT - EMI OPTIONS TO BUY

Price of Jiophone Next
As promised, the world's most affordable smartphone by Reliance Jio dubbed as "JioPhone Next" is confirmed to be launched in Diwali season soon. The company has detailed the various financing options on the purchase of it.

The website of Reliance Jio has mentioned that the phone can be bought without any financing option at a lump sum price of Rs 6499 at launch. However, it has also provided various Easy Monthly Installment options which also includes different Data plans as well.

For the people with less budget, The JioPhone Next can be bought for an upfront fee of Rs 1,999  with variety of EMI options to choose from. It is worth to note that a Finance processing fee of Rs 501 has to be paid extra with any EMI option.

Below are the various finance options provided on the website of Reliance Jio.

Always-on plan:
In this EMI option, buyers can choose between two sub options like paying Rs 300 for 24 months or Rs 350 for 18 months. Both these sub options provide 5GB of data and 100 minutes of free calling a month. This is the most cheapest EMI option provided which might suit users who do not have much data usage and call usage. Since only 100 minutes of free calling per month is provided, it needs to be seen how users approach these EMI options.

Price of Jiophone Next

Large Plan:
This option offers the choice of Rs 450 per month for 24 months or Rs 500 for 18 months for 1.5GB daily data and unlimited voice calls. Though the final price after completion of financing period might raise significantly, it is worth to note that this plan is also offering same benefit as that of Rs 199 plan. So the users are paying around Rs 250 for the device financing per month.

XL Plan: Users will get 2GB data a day with unlimited voice calling for Rs 500 for 24 months or Rs 550 for 18 months. Here, users are getting benefits of Rs 249 plan ( which gives 2GB data + unlimited calling per 28 days). So effectively, users are going to pay Rs 250 per month as part of Device finance.

XXL Plan:
This is the last EMI option provided which will provide  2.5GB data per day along with unlimited calling. In this option, users will have to pay Rs 550 a month for 24 months or Rs 600 per month for 18 months. There is no prepaid plan of 2.5GB per day, however if you compare with 3GB data per day plan, this data option can be equated to approximately 300rs per month. Hence here also users are paying only 250 rs as part of device financing option.

Conclusion:
JioPhone is dubbed as Most affordable Smartphone in the entire world which provides most advanced features at a very reasonable price. The lump sum price is set at Rs 6499 on launch. However, the Jio team has cleverly merged EMI option to both Device price and Prepaid plan price. Clearly, this is a marketing master stroke which needs to be admired. However, if you look at the extra financing cost that will build up till the completion of EMI period ( including one time processing fee of Rs 501), cost might seem little high. If this phone can be bought with credit card at no cost EMI, the deal might get much better for the users.

JIO COULD SOON LAUNCH ITS BUDGET LAPTOP - JIOBOOK

Jiobook - Jio's affordable laptop

Jio had already revealed its plans about introducing a budget laptop ( an initiative similar to that of JioPhone) last year, but owing to the success of previous Jio's initiatives and widespread demand for budget and affordable laptops for rural students for online classes, Jio could be speeding up its launch as per few online reports.

The planned laptop would provide 4G LTE support and is contemplated to be called "JioBook". Though exact specifications of JioBook are not available, few speculations are already in air which will be discussed below.

The new affordable laptop could be using Android Operating system and most of the Jio applications which are avaialble on the Jio Phone will be available in this laptop.

It is also speculated that Jio is working along with BlueBank Communication technology, a china based tech firm which develps third party softwares.

As per the report from XDA Developers, the planned Jio Book prototype is currently using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665 (sm6125), an 11nm chipset that was announced in early 2019. The chipset features a built-in 4G LTE modem called "Snapdragon X12". This feature will allow JioBook to provide cellular connectivity to Reliance Jio’s expansive 4G network. As per few leaked speculative images, the laptop was of small-to-mid size, sleek black in colour.

Jio Book has been said to have tested in various iterations and two models were revealed by the report-- the first one with a 2GB of LPDDR4X RAM paired with 32GB of eMMC storage and the second one with a 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB of eMMC 5.1 storage. The design aspects are expected to be completed before Jun 2021 and most are speculating that new product will be launched in September 2021.

Coming to the connectivity options, the laptop may feature a mini HDMI connector for video output, support for WiFi over 2.4 and 5GHz frequencies, Bluetooth, a three-axis accelerometer, and a Qualcomm audio chip. Last year, Jio partnered with Google to work on low-cost Android smartphones. The phones which will be bundled by data packs are speculated to launch in the first quarter of 2021. The move came after Google invested Rs 33,737 crore in Jio Platforms for a 7.7 per cent stake, last year.

If these speculations are to be true, India's rural population, especially rural students and poor parents could now afford a 4G enable laptop. It will also give direct boost to business sector in rural areas of India. We will get a clear picture in around 6 months from now.

Mukesh Ambani, the chairman of Reliance Industries revealed many details about most awaited wired broadband plan of Jio dubbed as " Jio Gigafiber" recently. He was speaking on the occasion of 42nd Annual General Meeting of Reliance Industries Limited on the 12th of August 2019. We have collated all the major points starting from launch, service details, installation and pricing of Jio Gigafiber service in this article.

Reliance Jio, the country’s second largest Telco by customers, is scheduled to launch the most awaited commercial home broadband plans under Jio Giga Fiber from September 5 of 2019 on the eve of third anniversary of launching Reliance Jio.

The most basic plan starts from Rs 700 per month which offers a minimum speed of 100 Mbps. The plans will begin from a minimum of Rs 700 a month, going to Rs 10,000 a month for premium customers, offering a variety of services including minimum speeds of 100 Mbps, free LED TV on each connection and free calls from landlines. Jio is also planning to introduce very cheaper international call rates from the landline connections at fixed monthly rental of Rs 500 to the United States and Canada. “In India even the most basic Jio Giga Fiber will start at 100 mbps at the lowest end. We have plans to go all the way to 1 Gbps. We are pricing our plan at one-tenth of global rate to make it accessible for every home,” Ambani said.

The Premium customers of Jio Gigafiber Service will also be able to watch movies on the same day of the release. This service is expected to be made available by mid of 2020.

Jio Fiber Welcome Offer:

Jio has also announced a Jio Welcome Offer, under which all those who buy its annual plans will get an HD or 4K LED TV and a 4K set-top box for free. Landline connection will also be for free. Jio has also kept installation charges free during the initial rollout period.

JIO TO INTEGRATE BLOCKCHAIN TECHNOLOGY

Along with the JioFiber launch, Mukesh Ambani has unveiled one more future projects of Reliance Jio during the 42nd AGM on 12th August 2019. Reliance Jio in association with Pan-India Edge computing and content distribution network is preparing to install one of the largest block chain networks in the world.

This new venture is part of the telecom arm’s plans to invest in locally up scaling advanced software technologies across India ahead of the rest of the world. The goal of Reliance Jio is to use the technology to deliver solid security, trust, automation and efficiency to almost any type of transaction. This requirement is in dire need in the sectors such as supply chains for agricultural produce and other goods which form the backbone of India's economy.

Ambani on Monday said that Reliance Jio is a software company, and has been developing technologies like Block chain, Edge computing, and Virtual and Mixed Reality content. "Jio has over 6000 software engineers and we are continuing to attract technology talent from across India and the world," Ambani said.

He also spoke about the investments underway for the new startups which are being supported by Reliance. Ambani said that Reliance Jio has been investing in enhancing ecosystem of new technology startups. These startups have added value to various services offered by Reliance Jio. He detailed that RIL and Jio have already invested in 14 startups which have developed unique capabilities in their respective fields with a total of more than 1500 talented engineers. "This is another way we are building talent. And on the back of this talent we are now investing in scaling-up advanced technologies in our country even ahead of the rest of the world," Ambani said.

Over the next 12 months, Jio will install across India one of the largest blockchain networks in the world with tens of thousands of nodes operational on day one. Ambani said that Block chain technology offers an opportunity to invent a brand-new model for data privacy where Indian data especially customer data is owned and controlled through technology by the Indian people and not by corporates, especially global corporations. "Data is wealth and Indian wealth must remain in India." Jio is also deploying a cloud infrastructure across India. "To leapfrog the world, it is a national imperative to develop a nation-wide cloud computing infrastructure that is both cutting-edge and affordable," he said.

Can Jio Lead 5G Market War?

Can Jio Lead 5G Market War?

After the 4G mania is settling down, operators worldwide are preparing themselves to the next generation networking capabilities which is also known as 5G ( 5th Generation ) Network. With the entry of Reliance Jio in 2016, there is a crushing and aggressive competition in the market of Data and Mobile Networks. Hence, it is no surprise that all the major operators are spending substantial amount of money, time and efforts to improve their stance and status by preparing themselves for upcoming 5G network domination in India.

Suggested Reads:

But the question is how prepared are the telcos to take a lead? Few reports are coming in which indicates Reliance Jio might be current leader in this race. SBI Cap securities has released a statement indicating Reliance Jio Infocomm is likely to launch 5G services by the second half of 2020, accelerating its rollout to stop rivals Vodafone Idea (VIL) and Bharti Airtel. The brokerage said Jio’s move to fast-track 5G plans is likely driven by mega fundraising plans lately announced by VIL and Bharti Airtel to enhance 4G capacities.

Rajiv Sharma, co-head of research at SBICap Securities, said he expects the government to auction 5G spectrum by January 2020. Jio is the only telecom operator which has backed an early sale of 5G airwaves. Both Bharti Airtel and VIL have opposed an early auction. Sharma said he expects Jio to make “a decisive 5G upgrade next year to make competition from Airtel and VIL on the 4G front irrelevant, in its bid to maintain leadership in fast broadband technology, thought and revenue market share fronts.

Bharti Airtel and VIL are expected to raise as much as Rs 50,000 crore from their planned rights distribution and tower asset sales. This move could narrow the gap with Jio in 4G services in all key urban markets. “Jio’s early move to 5G is inevitable to sustain market share gains, and we see it selectively deploying nextgen wireless broadband technology by the second half of 2020,” said Sharma.

If most funds raised by VIL and Airtel are deployed in expanding 4G capacity, they could together claim 425 million subscribers, sufficient to upgrade all existing 2G users to 4G, which would make it tough for Jio to gain more market share, post 9-12 months.

Jio did it again... Retains Crown as Top Download Speed Provider

Since its launch in 2016, Jio has shown a tremendous performance when it comes to the download speed. The values are out of the chart in comparison with its competitors. Other telcos have failed to come anywhere near to the values in this section, however Jio has few pitfalls too like the performance in upload speed and remote and rural connectivity.

As per the latest statistics by TRAI, Jio has retained its crown as undisputed leader in the arena of high download speeds. Jio has registered a top download speed of 20.9 mbps which is a significant improvement from previous record of 18.8 mbps.

Suggested Links: TRAI Myspeed Portal

Second is position is Bharti Airtel with its speed of 9.4 mbps as against 9.5 mbps in previous month. Vodafone has taken third position with a constant download speed of 6.7Mbps. Idea Cellular has performed the worst among India’s top four operators, but has shown marginal improvement by increasing its speed from 5.5Mbps in January to 5.7Mbps in February.

In terms of upload speeds, Vodafone has tops the chart with 6 mbps where as its partner company Idea has clocked a upload speed of 5.8 mbps which is a decline from previous month results of 5.8 mbps. Reliance Jio has remained third in the upload speeds chart, continuing its trend of marginal increase over the past three months to improve from 4.4Mbps in January, to 4.5Mbps in February. Bharti Airtel, on the other hand, has continued its trend of marginal decline over the past three months, to post 3.7Mbps monthly average upload speeds in February, down from 3.8Mbps in January.

While one can notice few marginal changes in the performance of various telcos, they are not too sharp. This indicates a slow progress on part of telcos to improve the performances. One more interesting observation is the declining performance of certain operators from previous months which needs to be matter of concern for our country. The factors which are influencing these negative changes are or could be controlled? If yes, then it is right time for the various operators to look into showing a continual improvement as the competition is becoming extremely aggressive.

Jio Aces in Call Drop Tests

In a clean sweep, Reliance Jio has aced the list of winners for the Call Drop tests conducted by TRAI ( Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) in testing of call quality on few selected highways & railway routes. This is a no small achievement given the short experience of the new entrant against other old age telcos.

The test was conducted by TRAI itself on the highways between Gaya to Danapur, Digha to Asansol, Asansol to Gaya, Bengaluru to Murdeshwar, Raipur to Jagdalpur, Dehradun to Nainital, Mount Abu to Jaipur and Sri Nagar to Leh. Also, Railway routes between Allahabad to Gorakhpur, Delhi to Mumbai and Jabalpur to Singrauli were covered.

According to a TRAI official test report, while network performance of telcos differed on highways, none of them, except Reliance Jio, could meet call drop benchmark on the three rail routes covered under the test. "Only Reliance Jio is meeting quality of service benchmark of drop call rate ...," the report said. According to the quality of service rules, not more than 2 per cent of total calls in a telecom circle on a network should automatically get disconnected.

The report said that neither 3G nor 2G network of Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea and state-run BSNL passed to meet call drop benchmark on selected highway routes and all the three rail routes. The report stated that Tata Teleservices Ltd (TTL), which is in the process of merging mobile business with Airtel, failed to even complete call connection as per benchmark between Bengaluru to Murdeshwar, Dehradun to Nainital and Gaya to Danapur and on the three rail routes.

On the other hand, Airtel could not meet call connection rate or call setup success rate on Gaya to Danapur highway and the three rail routes. Vodafone Idea network could not meet required rate on Raipur to Jagdalpur highway and all the three rail routes. Vodafone and Idea were considered separately in the result as some tests were conducted before completion of their merger.

These results indicate a possibility that old telcos might be compromising with their infrastructure in a bid to compensate staggering losses being incurred in the war of data. Other possible reasons are yet to be revealed by respective telecom companies.
