TRAI confirms eligibility for "Jio Summer Surprise"

Summer Surprise Withdrawn

As soon as the Summer Surprise Offer was withdrawn by Jio on request of TRAI ( Telecom Regulatory Authority Of India), there was a chaos in the Jio Prime and Non-Prime users.

In our earlier post, we tried to clear the water around some of the doubts with this new development. However, many users were unsure if TRAI would allow the applicability of Jio Summer Surprise offer to already registered users as described in Jio's press release.

To calm these nerves, TRAI itself has confirmed that every prime user who has recharged with a plan of 303 or above will be eligible for the "Summer Surprise" offer until July 2017. In an news interview, Mr Sudhir Gupta, the TRAI secretary has confirmed this news.

He also elaborated the circumstance under which TRAI asked Jio to withdraw the offer. Jio announced the Summer Surprise Offer on 31st March 2017 along with extending the deadline for Prime registration. The next day TRAI called for a meeting with Jio and requested to bring all the details about the plan.

"We asked the Jio officials if Summer Surprise was a promotional offer like Happy New Year offer?. They said it was a special benefit and was not a promotional offer", said Gupta. "We found that the explanations were not satisfactory and Jio agreed to withdraw the offer."

Many expect that Mukesh might release another press release clarifying this development in detail.
