After launching of JioPhones for a net price
of zero rupees, the Reliance Jio company was successful in attracting millions
of customers to its unique feature phone with 4G-LTE capabilities. However, the
phone lacked certain famous social media platforms like Facebook and Whatsapp.
Now, the company has rolled out the facebook feature
to all the JioPhone users from Wednesday, 14th Feb 2018. “Jio Phone is the
world’s most affordable smartphone built with transformational technology
especially for Indians to migrate from a feature phone to smartphone. As
promised, Jio Phone will be home to the world’s leading applications, starting
with Facebook,” Reliance Jio director Akash Ambani said in the statement.
The new version of the Facebook app is said
to have specially built for the Jio KaiOS, a web-based operating system
designed for Jio Phone. Around 50 crore beneficiaries of JioPhone can now start
using facebook. This web based Facebook app for Jio Phone will support push
notifications, video, and links to external content.
“We are excited about our partnership with
Jio and the opportunity to provide the best possible Facebook experience for
millions of people using JioPhone,” Facebook vice president of mobile
partnerships Francisco Varela said. The new kaiOS adopted Facebook app is also programmed
to work with the cursor functionality of Jio Phone.
Recently, Jio had announced the lowest
monthly rental plans in India specially for the JioPhone users at just Rs 49
for 28days of service. This move aided in further adding new customer base to
the network. It is said that Jio is also working on introducing the Whatsapp application
too, if done successfully, there is no doubt that it will garner many more JioPhone
fans.
