Jio added double the customers than all competitors together

As per the latest reportfrom TRAI , the new entrant Reliance Jio has been successful in maintaining the top position in acquiring highest number of wireless customers till end of January 2018. Jio has added over 8.3 million subscribers during the month, where as all the remaining competitors like Airtel, Vodafone and Idea have added less than the half of what Jio has added. This clearly indicates that customers are preferring Jio service over others.

The report says that the telecom subscriber base in India has dropped by 15.66 million to 1,175.01 million in January. The number of total wireless subscribers declined by 15.5 million to 1,151.94 million. "The number of telephone subscribers in India declined from 1,190.67 million at the end of December 2017 to 1,175.01 million at the end of January 2018," the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India said in its monthly subscriber report on Friday.

With the recent addition of 8.3 million subscribers, Jio has taken its total customer base to 168.3 million. Telecom major Bharti Airtel had the highest total customer base of 291.6 million but it could add only 1.5 million new subscribers. Meanwhile, Idea added 1.1 million new customers, taking its base to 197.6 million, Vodafone added 1.28 million, taking its base to 213.8 million. State-owned telecom operator BSNL, on the other hand, added 0.39 million, taking its base to 108.3 million by the end of January.

It is also reported that RCom, which shut down its telecom services in December, lost 21 million subscribers in January. Additionally, Aircel has also lost over 3.4 million subscribers and Tata Teleservices lost 1.9 million of its users. Also, Telenor lost 1.6 million users and MTNL lost just over 10,000 of its users.

However, the Airtel still has the greater market share of 25.32% followed by Vodafone, Idea, Reliance Jio, BSNL having a market share of 18.56%, 17.16%, 14.62% and 9.4% respectively. With an improved market share of 14.62%, Jio stands in the 4th position. Previous month, Jio had a market share of 13.71%. So, there is an improvement of around 1% market share. Surprisingly, Airtel's market share has declined from 25.85% to 25.32% compared to last month, being the only company to have negative market growth. Other companies like Vodafone and Idea have also improved market share slightly.

Jio wins the "India's Buzziest Brand 2018" award

Reliance Jio has been honoured with the award " India's Buzziest Brand - 2018" during the 13th edition of awarding ceremony. This award is presented to companies which resonate with all section of Indian consumers across the year. Jio stands at the top rank among all the Indian brands with a relative score of 100 against 100.

To compare the buzz level to previous year, the Reliance Jio was awarded the 3rd rank last year. You can read the official post from afaqs by clicking here .

This annual awards are presented by "afaqs" after careful evaluation of various relevant factors. The methodology involves a evaluation by 10 Jury members from various watchdog companies and analytical institutions. Voting is also collected from online polls. The evaluation is made by adding voting of public and jury members in the ration of 50:50.

" We at afaqs! are ready with our latest list of India's Buzziest Brands. This time, mobile network operator, Jio, has dethroned last year's winner, Patanjali, to top the list. If you recall, Jio finished third last year; 2017 was Jio's very first outing at the Buzzies. In second place this time, is last year's winner, Patanjali, a brand responsible for bringing about an Ayurveda tsunami in the market over the last 12 months. Mobile-first tech brand, Paytm, is at No. 3 this year. On this year's list of top 10 brands, eight are directly or indirectly mobile-related; one brand (Patanjali) belongs to the FMCG segment; and one is an auto brand (Maruti Suzuki)" the official post said.

Though the awards are set category wise, Jio stands at first rank in aggregated pool. The awarding entity provided more insights about how reliance Jio was able to keep its momentum and reached the top position. The official post stated " Reliance Jio Infocomm, a telecom brand from the stable of Reliance Industries, has topped the buzz list by a decent margin. Last year, when we wrote about Jio (it stood third) we asked our readers whether the brand would be able to retain its buzz or whether it was just a case of 'beginner's buzz'. Jio sure seems to have kept its buzz going. Though the brand's initial popularity was largely due to its 'free data' carrot, its top-of-mind recall continues to be high".

Every Country Needs a Reliance Jio - Netflix CEO

Every Country Needs a Reliance Jio - Netflix CEO

"Reliance Jio has been a transformational network in India and has brought down data cost massively. There are other people around the world having that kind of impact and can get people to use Internet more. We hope someone would do a Reliance Jio in every other country," - These are the words spoken by Reed Hastings, the co-founder and CEO of Netflix during an interview.

He was speaking about the slow pace of digital transformation in several countries and one of the reasons which he believes is high costs for telecom accessories like mobiles, call rates, data rates and dongle rates. Especially in developing and underdeveloped countries, this is a real game changer. He was referring to the huge digital transformation that Jio has bought by offering cheap data for more people to access Internet.

Reliance Jio entered the market with literally free service for few months and later started charging relatively cheapest rates in the industry. With this strategy, it has been able to attract more than 160 million subscribers in a span of just 14 months. This is a record which is yet to be broken in the world.

Hastings also said that India is very relevant to the video-streaming company. "In India, content world has been held back and is only ad-supported television. And what's great about Netflix is no advertising," he said. Worth to note that Netflix has recently announced a couple of original Indian series, including Sacred Games, Ghoul, Leila and Crocodile. For Sacred Games, Netflix has roped in Saif Ali Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Radhika Apte.

Amazon Prime and Hot star are the major competitors for Netflix in India. The content provided by the other two sites is more local, while Netflix is primarily English. Netflix's pricing structure also is a factor - it offers its basic services at Rs 500 per month, while Amazon Prime charges Rs 999 a year.Hastings said the only strategy their company has to take a lead in video streaming market is creating and providing quality and superior content. This is the only way in the market to attract huge customer base. While Hastings's comment hints that Jio has boosted Netflix’s business in India, the company has to more work to give a tough competition to local competitors from being the market leader.

How to check in which devices your Jio SIM is being used?

How to check in which devices your Jio SIM is being used?

The mobile network providers will have complete data about the users including the location history of a given mobile number. Similarly, Reliance Jio too have full details of its users. But, for the first time, Jio has updated its Myjio application recently to display information related to the type of mobile device using a given Jio SIM. This is indeed a cool feature.

This information is helpful in many ways. Suppose that you have shared your Jio SIM with any family member or friend, now you can track in which device they are using this SIM. Also, in an unfortunate case of losing your Jio SIM, you can also check if your SIM is being used by someone else and in which device. You can even know the brand name of the mobile in which your Jio SIM is being used. In fact, you can use this procedure to check the device name of any given Jio number, but don't worry, they can only know your mobile manufacturer name, nothing else.

Here is the step by step procedure:

Step-1:

Login to MyJio application with relevant credentials of Jio SIM. In the main page, you will find the device name for your main SIM in the My Account section. However, if you wanted to check the device name for other Jio SIM numbers, proceed to the next step. Now Select "More Options" button located in top left corner as shown below.

How to know which Jio numbers linked to your Adhaar card?

How to know which Jio numbers linked to your Adhaar card?

Reliance Jio is the first telecom company which adopted and started full e-KYC through the linking and verification of Aadhaar numbers. At the time of purchasing a new Jio SIM, it is compulsory to provide your Aadhaar card number and get the fingerprint verification done at the Jio outlets. Later on, all the telecoms started this procedure, after government made it a mandatory step.

This Aadhaar based KYC compliance system made the registration process simple and effective. In simple terms, each Jio number is linked to one or other Aadhaar number. The Aadhaar management Authority, UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India ) has several times issued press releases and assured about the safety of Aadhaar biometric details. In spite of this, there is a big section of Indians who are not fully convinced about the effectiveness of this system. If you are one from this section, it is natural that you will be concerned about someone buying a Jio SIM in your Aadhaar details and using the SIM for illegal purposes.

In this post, we are going to discuss how one can know the list of Jio numbers linked to his Aadhaar number. There are two methods to complete this task. The first method is by trying to add a new link account where you will find a list of all Jio numbers linked to your Aadhaar number. If for some reasons, you find technical difficulties in the first method, you have one more method. In this second method, we try to recharge and will find the list. Both the methods yield the same results. Hence, we leave the choice to the wise readers.

Even though, you have only one Jio SIM, we recommend that occasionally you check if any other number is linked to your Aadhaar number. Before we begin, let us tell the readers that to use this procedure, the user must have at least one active Jio SIM.

First Method - " By adding a new link account to your Jio number "

Step-1:

Login to MyJio application with relevant credentials of Jio SIM linked to your Aadhaar number. In the home page, click on 'Link New Account' under the "My Account" section.

How to know which Jio numbers linked to your Adhaar card?

Step-2:

In the new screen, you will find the list of all Jio numbers linked against your Aadhaar number. There will be message reading "The following numbers are linked to your Aadhaar number. Select from below number(s) to add to your account" and the linked numbers will be displayed below this message, if any. If no number is listed, that means you don't have any other Jio numbers utilising your Aadhaar card.

How to know which Jio numbers linked to your Adhaar card?

In case, this method worked for you, don't forget to read a "Special Advice" in the end of this post. If you were not successful with this first procedure, we recommend you try with the second method given below.

Second Method - " By trying to recharge a Jio number "

Step-1:

Special Advice:

If you happen to find a unknown jio number in the list, immediately contact Jio customer support team and deactivate the number. To be on safer side, we suggest that you also lodge a complaint with full details at the nearest police station, so that any illegal issues will not bounce back on you.

We hope that these details are helpful in fulfilling your query. Do not hesitate to leave a comment in case you have any additional enquiry or clarification.
