JIO JOIN HANDS WITH MEDIATEK FOR AFFORDABLE ANDROID SMART PHONES

Jio has partnered with the famous chipmaker Mediatek for developing android Smart Phones at affordable costs ( as an alternative to JioPhone). This news was confirmed by Mediatek at a event organised in New Delhi.

In order to attract the android fan base in India, Jio was evaluating options to come up with affordable smart phone running Android Platform, now this is going to be possible with Mediatek's Android Oreo (Go edition). The new smart phone is expected to sit alongside the Jio Phone, which was launched in the country in last July with an effective price of Rs. 1,500. No details were could be confirmed about the price and availability of the new Android Go Smart Phones.

"India is growth intensive, a market of immense opportunities with its own set of aspirations and needs. We continue to intensify our technology collaboration in India, even beyond Smart Phones, and recognise its importance in the global marketplace," said T L Lee, General Manager, Wireless Communication, Mediatek.

Google launched the Android Oreo (Go edition) in India last month. This is lightweight version of Android 8.1 and is primarily designed to make entry-level devices "fully-functioning" Smart Phones. Mediatek also confirmed that it has MT6739, MT6739, and MT6580 to support the Android Go platform.

Earlier last month, the company had announced its collaboration with Google for supporting Android Oreo (Go Edition) in which it was announced that the first Android Oreo (Go edition) Smart Phones powered by Mediatek processors will be launched in global markets by the first quarter of this year. This could be also the probable time line for the launch of Jio Android Go Phones along with JioPhone.

JIO DATA ADD-ON PACKS NOW OFFER MORE 4G DATA

Jio Data Add-on packs got revised

Jio has further intensified the brutal competition in the telecom sector by introducing new tariff revisions third time in a month. The first surprise came in the form of a republic offer which almost doubled the amount of data for the same old price. In the second move, it introduced the lowest monthly data plans for JioPhone users with more attractive plans.

Now, Jio has made a third move in which it has drastically increased the amount of high speed data volume under the data booster plans. Earlier, Jio had a total of 5 data booster plans (Rs 11, Rs 51, Rs 91, Rs 201, Rs 301). But now under the new revision, Reliance Jio has reduced it to only 4 plans by removing 3 old plans (Rs 91, Rs 201 and Rs 301) and adding 2 new plans ( Rs 21 and Rs 101).

Jio Data Add-on packs got revised

As shown in above table, The Rs 11 data booster pack now offers 400MB of high-speed data instead of previous 100MB. The new Rs 21 pack will add 1GB 4G data to the existing base plan and Rs 51 will add 3GB ( previously it was only giving 1GB). One more new booster pack Rs 101 is now offering a total of 6GB high speed data. Previously, Rs 201 used to offer only 5GB high speed data.

It must be noted that these booster packs now offer only 4G data and no voice calls ( anyhow the voice calls are offered free) and these packs do not extend the validity of any plans, instead these plans will be valid only until the original base plan is valid. Just for example, assume that a user has about 2 days remaining for his base plan to expire, if he recharges with any of the booster packs, the booster data added will also expired in next 2 days. Hence it is wise to make a note of base plan expiry before recharging with the booster packs.

Also, note that the add-on packs (booster packs) can only be used after one exhausts the high-speed data limit their base pack offers. These data booster packs are not applicable for JioPhone users.

JIO LAUNCHES LOWEST MONTHLY PLAN AT RS 49 ONLY

Reliance Jio has launched a new exciting offer for JioPhone customers as an extension to the previous "Jio Republic Day Offer " in which extra 4G data was offered under various prepaid plans dedicated for Non-JioPhone users. This new offer famously dubbed as "JioPhone Republic Offer" is available only for JioPhone users.

Under this offer, Jio has introduced a new recharge plan of Rs 49 in which the users will get 1GB high speed data valid for 28 days with free voice calls, messages, unlimited data at reduced speeds and application access.  "JioPhone users will enjoy free voice calls and unlimited data (1GB at high speed) for 28 days at a price of only Rs 49. Jio is also introducing affordable data add-ons at Rs 11, 21, 51 and 101," the company said in a statement.

It is worth to note that the previous nearby plan for JioPhone users was the sachet plan of Rs 54, which offered 3.5GB, but was valid for only7 days. With this plan, Jio has further dragged down the monthly recharge package from Rs98 to Rs 49.

Jio in an official statement has claimed that this offer is intended to connect the 50 crore unconnected Indians with the mainstream of digital freedom. "Tariffs charged for feature phone users continue to be exorbitant, while their smart phone counterparts on Jio enjoyed free voice calls and high speed data at the most affordable tariffs. The high feature phone tariffs make it impossible for them to even think of using data...Jio has made data affordable for everyone," the statement said.

In the official statement, the company has given a call to all the 50 crore feature phone users to get themselves free from the unfair digital empowerment and come to the mainstream and become a part of digital revolution.

JIOPHONE DRAGS DOWN THE SMARTPHONE SALES

As per the latest report from the German research firm GfK, the Smart phone sales in quarter 4 of 2017 ( in comparison to previous year Q4) have declined by at least 3 percent in India. The research firm has stated one of the major reasons behind this fall is the sharp growth of 4G feature phones like JioPhone.

The JioPhone was launched by Reliance Jio at an effective price of zero rupees with certain conditions imposed. Since then, the poor and middle class section have embraced this phone for enjoying cheaper 4G data offered by the same company. In the beginning, JioPhone was only available after successful pre-booking, but now it is available in various Jio retail outlets across the country for direct purchase.

It has also reported that this is the first ever year on year decline reported for the emerging Asia (which comprises of Asian countries like India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Cambodia, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam.

“Emerging Asia saw Smartphone sales of 58.6 million units in 4Q17, down one per cent year-on-year,” the market research firm said. This was dragged by a three per cent decline in India, where a proliferation of low-priced 4G feature phones likely cannibalized Smartphone sales,” it added. However, on an accrual basis, a total of 232.7 million smart phones were sold in 2017 in the Emerging Asia region, an increase of eight per cent compared to 2016.

The firm also reported optimistic growth forecast for the growth of Smartphone market. Yotaro Noguchi, product lead in GfK’s trends and forecasting division, concludes, “The outlook for 2018 is positive as GfK forecasts global Smartphone demand to rise by three percent compared to 2017, driven by Emerging Asia and Central and Eastern Europe. With saturation in developed markets, consumer retention will be a key focus for Smartphone makers, which, alongside increased commoditization, will encourage greater innovation and differentiation in order to spur sales.”

JIOPHONE TOPS THE FEATURE PHONE MARKET IN Q4-2017

JioPhone has surpassed Samsung to become the leading feature phone with a 26 percent market share (by shipment) in the last quarter of 2017. A report from Counterpoint Research has revealed that just within a quarter, Reliance Jio's JioPhone has acquired a total market share of 26 percent ( by shipment) and thus has pushed Samsung to second position with a 15 percent market share in Q4 2017, followed by Micromax with a 9 percent share, Itel with a 7 percent share, and HMD Global's Nokia brand with a 6 percent share. Other brands made up 37 percent of the market in Q4 2017.

However, the report said that for complete year 2017, Samsung still leads the market with a total shipment share of 21percent, where as Jio stands in 3rd position with a share of 11 percent. Second slot is taken by Itel brand with a total yearly share of 12 percent. On a yearly basis, Micromax has a 9 percent share and Lava has a 7 percent share.

The Rs. 1,500 JioPhone supplies were higher in the late Q4 and the device managed to bridge the demand vs. supply gap, Counterpoint noted. "One of the key reason for the sale of this phone was record pre-orders (6 million) plus many feature phone users found it a worthy upgrade," Tarun Pathak, Associate Director at Counterpoint, told IANS.

"These users have always used the similar form factor device for voice usage but using data on a similar form factor ensured that users didn't need to go through a huge learning curve when it comes to using data on smart phones," Pathak added. The positioning of Jio Phone as a Smartphone effectively as a "free" phone also worked for the company.

"Additionally, the strategy involving cashback after a couple of years in the feature phone segment makes more sense than cashback in low-end smart phones which don't enjoy such high-shelf life," Pathak added.

How to create new account in www.jio.com?

Dear Readers,

Apart from 'MyJio application', you can also check and manage your Jio account through desktop. In this post, we shall take you through the steps or procedure to create your own new account in the official website of Reliance Jio at domain address www.jio.com.

For this, you need to register at www.jio.com with a email ID and Password. This is a one time job and we recommend this because this process gives you much more flexibility in managing your account and getting constant updates.

Before we start, please ensure that your mobile with Jio SIM is available and having good network signal. In case, you don't have the 4G mobile with Jio SIM, at least you should have the phone with alternate number. Because, the OTP will also be sent to your alternate number when no network is available for your Jio SIM.

Read our previous blog "How to change your alternate number for Jio SIM?" in case your previously registered alternate number is not available anymore.

With everything ready, let us look at the procedure:

Step-1: Open the official Jio website www.jio.com and click on the 'Sign In' button on the top right corner of the home page.

How Much Do You Know About JIOMONEY?

JioMoney is one of the famous free apps offered by Reliance Jio for a safe and secure way of making digital payments across physical and online channels. This is similar to that of other payment apps available in the market, but it also offers few unique benefits to its users in terms of various attractive cashback offers and discount coupons.

Owing to its widespread presence, you can make instant bill payments, do mobile/DTH recharges, pay at thousands of online & physical stores and transfer money to other people or bank accounts. You can link your cards and bank accounts with it.

Any customer with a valid mobile number, registered with any telecom operator can sign up with JioMoney, but each person can hold only one JioMoney account as per the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) regulations. There are no charges for using JioMoney, you can download the app and start adding money to your JioMoney account through Net Banking, credit card or debit card.

You can link your bank account or credit/debit cards by logging into the JioMoney app and clicking "Add card/Bank account" under the Manage Accounts section. Your JioMoney balance will be displayed on the Home Screen when you login to your account.

Types of Accounts:

1.Basic Account: Transaction limit is capped at INR 10,000 per calendar month. No documents are required for 'Basic Account'.

2.Advanced Account: Premium customers can keep up to INR 100,000 stored in their JioMoney account for any calendar month, however you can do unlimited transactions above INR 100,000 for that calendar month.

You can send money to any person with a valid mobile number, who may or may not be an existing JioMoney user. Send/receive money directly from your JioMoney app by clicking on the Send/Request money icon from the Home screen and following the on-screen instructions.

If the recipient is not a JioMoney user, then he/she will receive a JioMoney installation invitation, whereby after successful app installation and JioMoney account creation, funds will get automatically transferred. Upon a successful transaction completion, you will see the success page with transaction details. You will also receive an SMS on your registered mobile number and e-mail (if registered), whenever you send/receive money. You can also view your recent transactions in the transaction history section of your app.

In order to unlock your account please contact JioMoney customer care at 1800-891-9999 (toll-free) or write to care@jiomoney.com.
