Reliance jio subscriber base touches 160 Million

The latest entrant into telecom sector Reliance Jio has successfully bagged the 160 million subscriber base within a short span of just over a year. This news was revelaed by Akash Ambani during the 40th anniversary gathering of Reliance Jio in a glamorous and attractive event.

The major success factor of Reliance Jio in achieving such a great height in such a short time is attributed to its extremely aggressive business strategy. Lots of freebies at industry best quality in the initial periods attracted huge number of fans. Inspite of turning freebies into paid plans, majority of the subscriber base has continued to use Jio services which also include several high profile additional applications at free of cost.

As per the October data, Jio had a reach of about 146 million users and just within 2 to 2.5 months, this number has crawled upto 160 million. In an on-stage discussion with the Ambani twins, Akash and Isha, the 52-year-old actor Shah Rukh Khan mentioned that Jio now has 100 million subscribers. Akash corrected him, saying "160 million, SRK!", in turn prompting the 'Badshah of Bollywood' to take a dig at just how good the Ambanis were with numbers.

As of 31st October 2017, Reliance Jio has acquired about 43% of total share market for wireless broadband connections. As per the recent statistics from Telecom Regulatory Authority of India ( TRAI), Jio has able to attract 146 million customers to its basket. This makes Jio the market leader in this sector.

The next contestant in line is Airtel which has a market share of about 19.7% with a total of 64.8 million customers. However, it is worth to note that airtel also stands second in line to BSNL in terms of wired broadband connections with about 2.13 million customers. Jio has not yet started its wired network, but trials are underway for the same in few selected cities in the name of "Jio Fibre".

The other major contestants in wireless broadband are vodafone, Idea, Reliance Communications with a subscriber base of 48.41 million, 31 million, 8.98 million respectively.

In case of wired broadband sector, BSNL tops the table with 9.48 million subscribers followed by Airtel, Atria Convergence Technologies, MTNL and Hathway with a subscriber bases of 2.13 million, 1.26million, 0.94million, 0.68million respectively.

Jio tops again in monthly subscriber additions

Jio has once again topped the chart in terms of adding highest subscribers to its wireless networks among all the telecom industries for the month of October 2017. Reliance Jio has succeeded in adding a total of 7.34 million active wireless subscribers to extend its market to 12.39%.

Courtesy: TRAI
Second in the list is Bharti Airtel with a net addition of 3.14 million customers, inspite of this it has retained top spot in the total market share with a share of 24.21%. Vodafone and Idea follow with net additions of 0.8 million and 0.7 million subscribers respectively and have maintained a market share of 17.68% and 16.20% respectively.

One of the public sector undertaking (PSU) service providers BSNL has added only 0.6 million subscribers, another PSU MTNL has lost 11520 subscribers. Both of these PSU have a combined market share of only 9.34% against private telcos market share of 90.66%.

NEW RECORD IN JIO NETWORK SPEED

Jio tops the speed chart

Jio has set a new record by reaching a top download speed of 21.9 mbps in October, that too by breaking its own previous record of 19.12 mbps as per the recent reports from TRAI. It is surprising to see that the next telecom operator in line is Vodafone which has recorded a top speed of just 8.7 mbps which is low by a staggering 60% difference.

During the tenure of nationwide free service, Jio had problems with speed at some places of the country, but it seems that Jio has learned and fixed all the loopholes and plugged them as it turns out almost like a monopoly in the internet download speeds. Followed by Jio and Vodafone, the speeds recorded by other telcos are like Idea - 8.6 mbps, Airtel - 7.5 mbps. One more interesting factor is except for Jio, the speeds of all other Telcos in fact has decreased by a bit compared to previous month data.

When it comes to upload speed, it's a different scenario. Idea topped the chart with 6.4 mpbs upload speed, with Vodafone, Jio, Airtel achieving a speed of 5.9, 4.1 and 3.5 mbps respectively.
